Open Architecture

One of the most powerful features of the Reliant Platform is its open architecture, supported by a robust and highly customizable operating system. This allows tremendous flexibility in networking configurations. New functionality can be introduced at any time, drawing from the deep reservoir of Linux and open-source software.

Networking is the foundation of any systems deployment. The Reliant Platform incorporates robust networking features that replace or augment traditional stand-alone networking components. Unlike the traditional “want a new feature, buy a new box” approach, these features are highly configurable and can address a variety of environments without the need for new hardware. Reliant Platform features include:

  • VPN functionality to enable private communication to headquarters, payment processors or trusted vendors.
  • A firewall that provides network segmentation for both external and internal network segments.
  • A secure wireless infrastructure that offers both staff and guest wireless access while maintaining centralized control and monitoring.


Technical Details

The Reliant Platform provides one of the broadest ranges of connectivity options available, covering both LAN and WAN technologies. Its open architecture enables a wide range of configurations, supporting numerous LAN and WAN network options, including:

LAN Port Switch
Reliant Platform is equipped with a number of 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet ports — ranging from one to thirty-two, depending on the hardware model. Each can be configured as a separate layer 3 network or aggregated together in any combination as a layer 2 switch.
WAN Connectivity
Reliant Platform allows for any interface or combination of interfaces to be configured as a WAN interface. Available interfaces include Ethernet, USB or serial. Connectivity options typically include Ethernet to a broadband modem or router, MPLS or T1 router, VSAT or USB 3G/4G modem.
VLANs and Wireless VLANs
Reliant Platform has full support for 802.1Q VLAN trunking. Up to 1024 separate VLANs can be assigned to any combination of physical or virtual interfaces. In addition, Reliant Platform can interface with wireless access points or switch and provide support for wireless VLANs via trunk interface.
Via USB interface, Reliant Platform accommodates 3G or 4G mobile wireless data modems. Use of the modem is controlled by flexible scripts, which can manage use of the link based on usage, network availability, time of day, source, destination, protocol and port.
Reliant Platform uses a flexible and efficient SSL-based VPN that runs smoothly and securely over any WAN medium.
Primary or Backup Connectivity
Reliant Platform provides primary or backup WAN connectivity from any of its interfaces. For example, it can be configured for primary connectivity using DSL with backup connectivity via a 3G/4G wireless link. It can also provide backup connectivity to a location, when paired with another router.
Routing Protocols
Reliant Platform supports most standard based routing protocols, including RIP, OSPF and BGP.
Reliant Platform offers robust quality-of-service options that can be established on a per-interface level. These include custom packet queuing and prioritization.

Complete Enterprise WiFi without Enterprise Costs

The Reliant Platform provides a complete multi-location, enterprise-grade wireless solution at a price point that is a fraction of complex commercial alternatives. Our solution provides centralized management, monitoring and security. The Reliant Platform can readily scale to many thousands of locations and offers significant configuration variation at the store level.

Wireless Security

Extensive wireless security is the foundation of the Reliant Platform solution. In addition to the security access models at the AP, including WPA and WPA2, we offer enterprise authentication to centralized RADIUS and LDAP.

Extensive, dynamic firewalling at both the wireless and LAN level are available and feature source, destination, port, and both IP and MAC address filtering.

Additionally, either at the AP or via dedicated wireless sensors, Redbox offers wireless intrusion detection (RWIDS) that provides features such as rogue access point detection and attack signature recognition. RWIDS can operate from an inexpensive sensor attached to a Redbox, or via multiple purposed APs, for complete coverage in large spaces.

Complete Centralized Management and Monitoring

Automation at its Best

A private, cloud-based management framework is at the core of the Reliant Platform solution. This provides end-to-end configuration control of the entire solution stack. This enables the following items to all be integrated with one another:

  • Wireless access points in an unlimited number of locations and quantities
  • Security components
  • Device inventory and setup
  • Firewall rules
  • IP address and routing
  • Operating systems
  • Hosted applications

This integration enables the entire solution to be managed from a single location. For example, the addition of an additional location can auto-generate:

  • AP configuration
  • Permissions and access controls for mobile devices
  • Auto device white listing and the setup of any hosted applications in a single action

Device monitoring and alerting is similarly centralized with automatic correlation and reporting.

With Reliant Platform, device monitoring and reporting is integrated with both wireless AP monitoring and application monitoring in a single composite solution. This dramatically simplifies the secure operations and support of critical wireless environments.
